Our Story

Welcome to ReNEW Robert Russa Moton Lakefront Academy, previously known as Robert Russa Moton Charter School. We are thrilled to embark on this new journey as ReNEW Charter Schools assumes the role of operator starting in the 2024-2025 school year. At ReNEW, we are dedicated to transforming underperforming schools into academically rigorous institutions that prepare students for success in high school, college, and their future careers. Our mission is to impact every PK-8 student from their first day, ensuring they receive the education and support they deserve.

ReNEW Schools focuses on identifying the lowest-performing public schools in New Orleans and through a collaborative vetting process involving community members, staff, students, families, and local and state School Boards, we assume control of these schools. This new control grants us the autonomy to make necessary staffing, cultural, academic, and operational changes, all aimed at enhancing our students' academic achievement.

Our Turnaround Model, though challenging, is immensely rewarding. By taking control of all grades simultaneously, we can shift the culture, perspectives, and trajectory of schools, fostering success for both students and the community.

ReNEW Moton Lakefront, in partnership with families and the community, creates a learning environment that fosters kindness, curiosity, and a love for lifelong learning. Named in honor of Robert Russa Moton, a distinguished American educator and author, our school carries forward his legacy of educational excellence. Moton was a key figure in advancing education for African Americans, serving as an administrator at Hampton Institute and later succeeding Booker T. Washington as the president of Tuskegee University. His efforts to integrate liberal arts into the curriculum and improve teacher training have left an enduring impact on the field of education.

We are committed to upholding these values and continuing to provide a high-quality education that empowers our students to achieve their full potential at ReNEW Moton Lakefront.
